Founded in 1948 by a master craftsman in Lyon, the company started with a simple mission: to build wooden toys that would help children rebuild their imaginations after the war. For decades, our tools were hand chisels and manual lathes. In 2003, as the company began expanding internationally, it rebranded to Ateliertoy — adding “toy” to honour the playful spirit at the heart of its mission.
Today, Ateliertoy employs 250 people across two facilities, blending traditional French woodworking heritage with cutting-edge software to engineer the future of play. We respect our past, but we build for the future.
We build tools for the next generation, which means taking absolute, measurable responsibility for the world they will inherit. Sustainability at Ateliertoy is not a marketing department initiative; it is an engineering requirement.
Every single piece of wood we mill is ethically sourced from sustainably managed, certified French forests. We plant more than we consume.
The new Innovation Campus operates on 70% renewable energy, utilizing an advanced closed-loop thermal recovery system powered by our data centers and CNC friction heat.
Our hardware packaging is entirely biodegradable, avoiding single-use plastics. All electronic PCBA components comply strictly with global RoHS and WEEE directives for safe recycling.
We are always looking for exceptional engineering, software, and operational talent to join our Lyon headquarters.
Today, we are a global leader in educational technology. But in 2015, we were a traditional manufacturer struggling with shrinking margins and operational chaos. Discover how we utilized data, automation, and structured governance to scale. Read our 10-year operational case study.
